Those who say that all of my songs sound the same, I can partially agree with you there, as others say - it's how I roll, that's my style. You won't believe this, but I actually make each of my song from scratch, I don't have any "Tobu template". But by the end of the day it turns out actually sounding very similar to my other songs. I make melodic house music, so yeah, beat is same, style is same, but melodies are different. 99.1% averagely seems to be liking my songs, and that's good enough for me. It's surprisingly high ratio, if I would really start changing all my style, my fans would go away, that's why they are here, to hear this.

Toms Burkovskis[1], professionally known as Tobu (stylized as 7obu), is a Latvian music producer. He resides in Riga, the state capital of Latvia. He officially debuted on NCS with his song Seven, which was released on January 26, 2014. He has become a very popular artist on NCS, and many of his currently available NCS releases have managed to reach over ten million views. He is also one of the most popular Latvian musicians of all time as well as one of the most popular musicians in the region of Northern Europe. In 2023, several of Tobu’s NCS releases were removed from the NCS Youtube account due to his contract with the label expiring, some of which had managed to reach several tens of millions of views.

History[]

Early life[]

He has always loved melodic music, and was greatly influenced by Danish bubblegum dance groups and other groups, and began creating music at the age of 11. He started making music with "eJay," a music arrangement software that collected samples, and at the age of 17, he purchased a license for FL Studio, a professional music production software widely used by music producers, and began exploring the world of electronics.

He had no musical background, so he watched tutorials on YouTube and played the piano for hours to gain an understanding of melodies and chord progressions. His friends also taught him some techniques. His work is inspired by Deadmau5's "Strobe" and Avicii's "Levels."

Pre-NCS career[]

Tobu created his YouTube channel on December 1, 2011. "I mainly produce House (especially Commercial House and Electro House) tracks." The first video uploaded to his channel was his song "Storm It's Coming!" Since then, he has released the tracks "Obstacles" with Etori and "Magic" with Itro, both of which have been viewed more than a million times.

Trivia[]

Other[]

  • Tobu's handle name consists of the first two letters of his first and last name.
  • All of Tobu's songs that were released on NCS between 2014 and 2015 were made private on NCS' YouTube channel. This was due to Tobu not wanting to renew the contract with NCS for these tracks as Tobu shared ownership of the tracks and NCS wanted to take full ownership of the tracks, which Tobu did not want to happen.
    • Additionally, a YouTube Short that featured Tobu's 2014-2015 music has been removed.
